INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Department of Correction has appointed Michael Dempsey as its new superintendent of the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility in Madison County. His post will begin June 5.

The juvenile correctional complex recently received national recognition by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) for outstanding contribution to the positive development of juveniles in the state of Kansas.

Most recently, Dempsey served as the superintendent at the maximum security juvenile correctional complex in Topeka, Kansas. He directed the development and implementation of all operating policies, activities, rehabilitation programs, and clinical services for the facility, while managing a $15 million annual fiscal budget.

"I'm excited that we were able to persuade Michael to join our team," said J. David Donahue. "Michael's experience in managing the 270-bed Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex will be instrumental in the implementation of new programming techniques, policy and planning, resulting in a safe and secure rehabilitation environment of the juvenile population at the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility."

Dempsey began his career as a correctional officer in 1985 and has held several key roles including correctional supervisor, training officer and assistant superintendent at a 2000-bed adult male maximum correctional facility.
