MARYVILLE, MO - An inmate at the Missouri Department of Corrections facility in Maryville was charged Wednesday with assaulting a female employee there in March. Quincy Vaughn, 22, began serving a 10-year sentence in 2002 on his conviction in Jackson County for second-degree robbery and armed criminal action. He is charged in Nodaway County with attempted forcible rape and committing violence against a corrections employee. Brian Hauswirth, a corrections department spokesman, said the woman was interviewing Vaughn in her office when the attack took place. Vaughn is accused of grabbing and restraining her, then choking her and beating her about the head and face. According to court records, she suffered a concussion, a broken nose and cuts and bruises. Vaughn was transferred to the Crossroads Correctional Center, a maximum security prison in Cameron, and he faces an initial court appearance June 6. Hauswirth said that the Maryville superintendent, Joe Ledbetter, ordered a review of safety procedures after the attack. Changes that have been made include improving the line of sight in offices where employees meet with prisoners. |
