A maximum-security prison in western Kentucky was without running water last Wednesday after its supply line was ruptured by lightning. The break occurred last Monday night when a bolt struck a 300,000-gallon tower tank that feeds water into the 800-inmate Kentucky State Penitentiary. The prison is using water from tanks supplied by the Kentucky National Guard and the city of Eddyvill for cooking meals, deputy warden Tom Simpson said. Prisoners were getting bottled water to drink, and inmate bucket brigades were formed to provide water for flushing toilets. Simpson said there's been "absolutely no trouble" from inmates. |
