TIPPECANOE, IN - A Gary man found dead in his Tippecanoe County Jail cell the morning he was supposed to be sentenced died of a drug overdose. His death has been ruled a suicide. Victor C. Patterson, 42, was found dead about 4:30 a.m. Jan. 27 during a routine check of his single-bunk jail cell. "Mr. Patterson died as the result of an overdose of a pharmaceutical agent," the Tippecanoe County coroner's office said in a written statement this morning. "The time factor involved between the date of death and the release of the coroner's determination was to allow the (Indiana State Police) time to complete an investigation into the source of the pharmaceutical agent." Detective Jay Harper of the state police said that investigation continues. He is awaiting results of crime lab analysis of evidence collected in the case. He declined to elaborate. |
