DECATUR, AL - The Morgan County Community Corrections and Court Services Commission chose Alison Christian Nix to head community corrections. The commission met Thursday to discuss applicants.  Nix is a juvenile probation officer in Lawrence County

Circuit Judge Steve Haddock, who was on the hiring committee, gave an overview of the applicants. Haddock said none of the six applicants, including Nix, had any experience in community corrections, but most had experience in adult or juvenile corrections programs.

Nix once worked for the Morgan County juvenile office, and Haddock said she acquired experience in how to apply for grants. The commission's goal is to get grant funding to help with the community corrections program.

A federal judge ordered Morgan officials to develop community corrections to serve as an alternative to sentencing defendants to jail or prison.

If she accepts the job, Nix will start working June 12. County Commission Chairman John Glasscock said for now her office will likely be at the courthouse.

Nix's annual salary would be $40,000 plus benefits, including health insurance.
