CHARLOTTE, FL - A Charlotte County Corrections Officer was arrested Thursday night and placed on administrated leave for allegedly having sex with a female inmate while on duty.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Officer Robert John Stenlunk, 32, had an inappropriate relationship with the inmate on or around May 22 in the inmate's cell.

Detectives met with the inmate who said she did engage in a consensual sex act with Stenlund. When authorities approached Stenlund, he corroborated the inmate's statement, officials said.

“It is unfortunate that there are times when we have to arrest one of our own members for alleged criminal misconduct,” said Sheriff John Davenport. “An event such as this gives a black eye to the profession and to the other members of the office who work so very hard each and every day to provide effective public safety to our citizens.

Stenlund is charged with sexual misconduct between a detention employee and inmate. The charge is a felony.
