BARWON, AUSTRALIA - An $8 million super prison for terrorist prisoners is the centrepiece of a $100 million terrorism and security package to be unveiled in today's Victorian Budget.
The high security prison block will be built inside the maximum security jail at Barwon, near Geelong, the Herald Sun reports today.
The 27-bed block will house convicted terrorists, terrorism suspects and those linked to Victoria's gangland wars.
The terror package will include a new bullet-proof van for transporting terrorist suspects, $4 million for Victoria Police for ballistic vests, and $18 million to investigate terrorist complaints.
A new judge will be appointed to the Supreme Court and security at the court upgraded.
Property tax cuts are likely in the state budget and the government is expected to bring forward a pledge to cut the top tax rate from 5 per cent to 3.5 per cent.
A further $50 million will be allocated to Major Events in a bid to lure the 2018 soccer World Cup.
