CUMBERLAND, WV - Several employees were honored recently by West Virginia Warden Lisa J.W. Hollingsworth in conjunction with the Bureau of Prisons Correctional Workers' Week activities at the Federal Correctional Institution.

Honorees are chosen by their peers for workplace contributions and performance that improve operations and programs. Senior officer specialist Shane DuVall of Keyser, W.Va, was selected correctional officer of the year.

A prison spokesman said DuVall worked several critical correctional posts during the past year and has also been instrumental in maintaining the security of the prison on a daily basis.

Correctional counselor Will Brooks of Cumberland was named correctional worker of the year for his dedicated work improving the operations at the Federal Prison Camp and for being exceptionally productive during the past year by readily accepting duties requiring greater responsibility.

Supervisor of the year is health services administrator Richard Shook of Cumberland.

Shook is responsible for supervision of all the health care providers within the federal prison.

The spokesman said he has managed the different roles within his department, while maintaining quality health care for the inmate population.

Instructor of the year is electrical technician Bruce Bothast of Cumberland.

The spokesman said Federal Bureau of Prisons' training requirements include a series of classes during the annual refresher training period.

Bothast identified a training need for staff, developed the entire curriculum and presented an informative course for practical use in the federal prison.

Dr. Lisa Morshead, chief of psychology services, is supervisor of the quarter.

The spokesman said Morshead demonstrated superior skills in managing the psychology services staff, oversaw the implementation of a new residential drug abuse program at the medium security institution, and addressed the issues of a very active mental health case load.

Computer specialist Sherry Root was named employee of the month for April.

The spokesman said Root demonstrated an outstanding work ethic while temporarily assigned to the inmate systems/management department, was instrumental in assisting the mail room and records office staff and willingly takes on new tasks when she was asked to do so.
