Two inmates who escaped from the Morgan County (Ind.) Jail using a piece of metal trim to gouge out a hole in the concrete block wall are back in custody. Jamie Michael Collins, 33 and Bradley Lee Pryor, 32, were captured yesterday without incident at a truck stop near the Vanderburgh-Gibson county line in Southern Indiana. The truck stop is near the intersection of I-64 and U.S. 41. Morgan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Robert J. Downey said deputies had gotten a tip that Collins and Pryor were at the truck stop because their van had broken down. Morgan County deputies called the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's office and asked for help. "We sent about 17 uniformed and plain clothes officers to the area. They saw the van and two men. One was limping," said Eric Williams, chief deputy for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department. Deputies and state troopers captured the two unarmed men. Police took the two to the Gibson County Jail in Princeton to await Morgan County deputies. Collins and Pryor escaped Saturday by gouging a hole in the upper wall of their second floor cell. They had pulled a piece of metal from the casing of their door. Although officials are not sure how the two escaped, they believe the pair may have had help. Collins was awaiting trial on robbery charges in connection with the holdup of a Martinsville Kroger store. Pryor was being held on charges of possession and dealing in methamphetamine. It was the first escape from the jail since it was built in 1991. |
