DEVON, UK - A rooftop protest by 10 inmates at a Devon prison, which started on Sunday, is continuing. They are claiming sex offenders have been brought in to cook the food and are waving banners insisting they will not be eating meals prepared by them. Trained negotiators are at the scene and the Home Office said the protest was peaceful. Police said they were not aware of any injuries, the situation was "calm" and security had not been compromised. The prison, which opened in July 1974, has a total capacity of 667 prisoners and takes a wide range of sentence lengths. It includes specialist units for sex and drugs offenders. Three inmates staged a rooftop protest at the jail in May last year which ended peacefully. |
