Three inmates who escaped from a Los Angeles County jail while working in a laundry warehouse were captured early Wednesday. The three were found in car stopped by California Highway Patrol officers shortly before 8 a.m. on Interstate 5, authorities said. The jailbreak at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, was discovered around 7 p.m. Tuesday. The fugitives were Roman Becerra, 20, a convicted burglar; Rogelio Galarza, 31, convicted of firearm possession; and Ricardo Hernandez, 34, convicted of drug possession. Although the three were not violent felons, "they escaped into a highly populated area with schools nearby and you never know. We needed to get on it," said Sgt. Ron Olfert of the Santa Clarita sheriff's station. |
