CHINO, CA - About 100 inmates Sunday were involved in a riot at the California Institution for Men, a prison spokesman said yesterday. The brawl took place in Borrego Hall in the prison's Reception Center-West, an intake center for new inmates, Lt. Alex Hernandez said. The facility is a dormitory unit that houses about 200 prisoners. The fight between white and Latino inmates was broken up quickly by officers using pepper spray, but not before the inmates broke about a dozen windows and ripped a drinking fountain from the wall, Hernandez said. No officers were injured in the fight. A few inmates suffered minor injuries and were treated at CIM's medical facilities, Hernandez said. |
