FRANKFORT, KY - Kentucky DOC Deputy Commissioner James Shoemig today announced the promotion of Alan Long to Deputy Warden of the Blackburn Correctional Complex in Lexington.

The 600-man minimum-security prison is a great fit for the 18-year veteran.  Long began his career in 1988 as a correctional officer at the Northpoint Training Center.  A rapid promotion to classification and treatment officer afforded Long the opportunity to demonstrate talents as grievance coordinator, transfer coordinator and social services director.  In May 1995 he was promoted to corrections unit administrator I where he excelled by successfully managing segregation and general population units.  Long was promoted again in September 2002 to unit administrator II where he assisted the American Correctional Association team in their program/security review process.

“Alan Long is a dedicated corrections professional who will help lead Blackburn,” said Schomig.  “His years of experience will be a valuable asset to this facility.”

Long earned his undergraduate degree in telecommunications from The University of Kentucky in 1986.  His work in the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency (KCCD) and volunteer work with charitable organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, WHAS Crusade for Children, and March of Dimes has earned him considerable recognition as an active member of the community.

Long is a native of Lincoln County and the father of two teenagers, Hannah and Ethan.  The family will be residing in Boyle County.
