CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Nueces County Commissioners got another update on the jail this week.  As you may recall, the jail did not pass a state inspection about three weeks ago.

Nueces County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Jimmy Rodriguez told the commissioners Wednesday that the problems at the jail have essentially been fixed.

The UPS or uninterruptible power supply switch on the generator was being fixed and will be ready for inspection next week.  Rodriguez said the reported mold problem was really a dust problem and he said a company has been hired to replace the air conditioning filters on a regular basis.

A professional cleaning company has also been hired, but he said much of the cleaning duties will be performed by the inmates.

"They've done an excellent job the last six weeks to bring it up to what is expected of them by the federal marshal," said Nueces County Judge Terry Shamsie.

Shamsie said the main problem at the jail will be to continue regular upkeep and maintenance.

Meanwhile, Chief Deputy Rodriguez said they plan to add more security cameras to keep an eye on inmates who destroy county property.
