| Counties see community corrections potential |

TALLADEGA, AL - Shelby County's success with community corrections has its neighbors in St. Clair and Talladega counties wanting similar results. The St. Clair County Commission passed an ordinance in February authorizing officials to devise a plan for a community corrections program. With a meeting scheduled this week, officials are ready to get the program started. St. Clair County Circuit Judge Jim Hill said the county already has many of the components– including drug court – but needs to place them all under the umbrella of community corrections. “This gives us the opportunity to deal with folks short of putting them in the penitentiary,” Hill said. “In the programs we refer offenders to, we get reports back.
