| County jails plan hits opposition |

HARRISBURG, PA - Groups representing county commissioners and local wardens want the Corrections Department to scrap draft changes to jail regulations that others have praised as much-needed and overdue improvements. About two dozen comments have been filed since the Corrections Department proposed a 53-page revision last month to the rules that guide operations at Pennsylvania's 68 county jails. The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania said the standards would be too expensive to meet and would undercut the traditional decision-making power of local prison boards.
