| Staff prepares for new Wiscasset jail |

WISCASSET, ME - Opening a new jail takes more than a key. It takes a whole lot of planning and practice. The staff of the new Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset is finding that out this week. 36 corrections officers started their training for the new jail on Monday. Some were officers at the old Lincoln County Jail, while others are new to the job. They all will be going through 3 months of education and training before the first prisoners arrive. "This is our classroom", said jail administrator Wayne Applebee. The new jail's new housing units are a far cry from the old, dark cellblocks. It's a large, brightly-lit space, bordered by two floors of cells. Through a door in a wall of windows is the outdoor recreation yard. Read more.
