| County wary of new prison regulations |

WEST CHESTER, PA - Two groups representing county commissioners and local wardens want the state Corrections Department to scrap draft changes to jail regulations, but that does not mean that Chester County officials oppose them. The department, in revising its regulations, "found out-of-date regulations that were too technical and which did not afford the flexibility to be addressed by local prison management," Ed McFadden, warden of Chester County Prison, said Tuesday. The Chester County commissioners referred questions to the warden. Meanwhile, Franklin County Jail Warden John E. Wetzel, president of the Pennsylvania County Prison Wardens Association, said his organization is strongly opposed to the current draft, which others have praised as much-needed, overdue improvements. "We're not looking to get out of standards, we're not looking to do that," Wetzel. "Most people shoot for more than the minimum standards.
