Tent jails create a council furor

CINCINNATI, OH - Cincinnati City Council is on the bubble about the bubble-shaped tent jails as a temporary fix to chronic overcrowding at the Hamilton County Jail.

Members of Council voted 5 to 4 to refer the proposal by Council members Jeff Berding and Leslie Ghiz to build several temporary tent jails in Camp Washington with enough space to hold 800 prisoners, back to the Law and Public Safety Committee for further consideration. Members John Cranley, David Crowley, Chris Monzel, Jim Tarbell and Cecil Thomas voted to send the idea back to the committee level.

Thomas said he was hesitant because of the hastiness of the proposal.
