TROY, AL - Massively overcrowded prisons with too few officers are just a couple of reasons Richard Allen has a tough job. The commissioner of the Alabama Department of Corrections spoke to the Troy Exchange Club on Thursday, and said he took over the beleaguered department in February, his family and friends all thought he was crazy. “I kept getting phone calls with only one question, ‘Have you lost your mind?,'” Allen said.
