Jailers to fingerprint inmates

PIKEVILLE, KY - County jail officials like the idea of the new law requiring the jail to fingerprint every inmate booked, but also call it a “hardship” on jail employees.

Pike County Jailer Rodney Scott said the law, which requires the jail to take fingerprints and then enter them into a national database, went into effect on July 12, but “we've had the fingerprint machine for probably three or four years, maybe longer than that.”

The fingerprinting used to be up to the arresting officer, but now the jail is responsible for taking all of the prints, Scott said. Read more.
