| Jail gets $481K for expansion |

HINDS COUNTY, MS - Hinds County supervisors on Monday approved $481,000 to fund expansion of the Raymond Detention Center's recreation yards to meet national standards, a move that should lead to more beds at the crowded facility. The expansion is a condition the county must meet to add 132 beds to be double-bunked in existing cells. There are 594 beds at the facility, which almost always is at or over capacity. "The Board of Supervisors has now, I believe, put the final piece of the puzzle together to alleviate the backlog of cases in the Hinds County justice system," said District 1 Supervisor Charles Barbour, who introduced the plan.
