CRANSTON, RI – A.T. Wall, II, director of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, promoted Stephen C. Boyd to Warden of Medium Security Facilities.

The West Greenwich native's ascension through the ranks are a common theme in his 22 year corrections career, as his superiors continue to consistently recognize his loyalty and respect for the job.  Boyd honed his talents as a corrections officer until 1992 when he became an investigator with the newly-formed Special Investigations Unit.  He was chief investigator until 1998. He then became acting deputy warden of the High Security Center.  In 1999 Boyd moved to the role of deputy warden at the Intake Service Center, and left there to become deputy warden of Medium Facilities from 2001 to 2003.

“Throughout his career, Steve has demonstrated his knowledge of institutional operations, management skills, leadership ability, sound judgment, strong work ethic, and integrity,” says Wall.

The director added that Boyd's instrumental role as a “firm, fair, and consistent manager” in Maximum had a lot to do with this most recent promotion.

Boyd has an Associate's degree from Community College of Rhode Island and has nearly completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and business administration at Roger Williams University.
