| Jail gets green light to expand |

EATON COUNTY, MI - Overcrowding at one local jail could soon be a thing of the past. Thanks to voters, plans to expand the Eaton County Jail are moving forward. The chunk of land next to the Eaton County Jail has sat idle for years. Sheriff Mike Raines says there hasn't been a need to use it, that is until now. "We tried to illustrate the great need for the jail expansion," says Raines. The past year, the sheriff says the number of inmates at the jail reached an all-time high, hitting capacity and forcing some re-arranging from inside. More needed to be done, so the sheriff says they went to the polls. "I want people to be aware and know there was a need.
