| AL commission waits to vote on program |

Eufaula, AL - Barbour County Court Referral Officer Jason Tyre said he had made some changes to the Articles of Incorporation for the proposed program. Tyre and commissioners both agreed the changes needed to be reviewed before the commission votes on the program. If approved, Barbour County judges would then have another option when sentencing offenders. The program would be a step between probation and prison. Those sentenced would likely live at home, even though they could be required to stay at a supervised facility. Offenders would work a regular job to help pay restitution, and would be required to take part in regular drug tests or counseling, defensive driving workshops, community service or other diversionary processes as warranted. Non-compliance could result in prison time. Tyre said the current plan would have the program working as a non-profit 501c3. The county would not be responsible for any program costs.
