Crimes at state prisons burden county

JESSUP, MD - Scores of Maryland corrections officials are said to be working diligently to maintain order at the state prison where an officer was stabbed to death last month. But the task of prosecuting the assailants -- and others who commit crimes at the Jessup facility -- falls only to the Anne Arundel County state's attorney's office.

Jessup is home to eight state correctional facilities, including two maximum-security prisons, and the fact that inmates come from across Maryland doesn't matter when they commit crimes inside those walls. Read more.
