CARRBORO, NC - Sights abound in a women's prison shower room. A tattoo of some guy's name, split by a deep scar. Needle-tracked veins. An unmistakable iron print burned into a tall inmate's back. The N.C. Women's Prison Repertory Company -- a small group of female performers from Raleigh Correctional Center -- doesn't stop at describing the shower room. They talk about the malaise of prison life and how a child's photo brings elation one day, crushing despair the next. They tell of their pasts, of childhood memories of mom's banana bread, before their lives were twisted by molestation, drugs or killing.
