| Mobile housing units open today |

SPRINGFIELD, OH - Sheriff's deputies acted as tour guides Sunday and gave interested area residents a glimpse of the mobile housing units that will start holding jail inmates this morning. The mobile housing units located in the garage under the jail aren't a new addition. They previously housed inmates and juveniles during renovations. The continually increasing number of inmates in the Clark County Jail led Sheriff Gene Kelly to get permission from the state and funding from the county to open the units as temporary housing for nonviolent offenders until a more permanent solution to the overcrowding can be found. The jail has enough beds for 198 inmates, but the state Bureau of Adult Detention recommends a maximum of 167 inmates.
