County forms new jail committee

WASHINGTON COUNTY, OK - District 2 County Commissioner Linda Herndon announced Monday there will be an additional group — consisting exclusively of county officials — examining the potential construction of a new jail. “Last week we put together a new team,” Herndon said at the regular weekly meeting of the Washington County Board of Commissioners.

The committee will include Washington County Treasurer Stan Stevens, County Clerk Marjorie Parish, Sheriff Pat Ballard, Jail Administrator Gordon Brown, acting Undersheriff Gary Miller and 911 Coordinator Mitch Antle. Stevens said he hopes the committee will have a PowerPoint presentation ready by next week.

“Treanor (Architects) projected $20 million and I don't know if that will hold up,” he said of one estimated cost for a new facility. “We want to contain the costs as much as we can. We hope to guide the architects into something no frills...Read more.
