PORTSMOUTH, VA - The Sheriff's Office is investigating whether an auxiliary deputy used inmates for a private business after a local television news team videotaped the deputy with men believed to be inmates doing yard work. In a statement, the Sheriff's Office said it is conducting an internal investigation into the deputy, which WAVY News 10 identified as Matthew Ejma. The Sheriff's Office, in a statement, declined to identify the deputy, but wrote that he was an auxiliary, or unpaid, deputy. The office did not identify the inmates in its statement...Read more.
