| Officials want prison to accept bail |

CARBON COUNTY, PA - The prison began accepting bail money for the first time just a few weeks ago. Prison officials are required by state legislation and county policy to accept up to $5,000 bail after work hours and on holidays and weekends. The prison is open 24 hours a day, but prison employees don't accept bail during regular work hours. The law is designed to take the burden off magisterial district judges, who often are awakened in the middle of the night for arraignments, county officials have said. Carbon County court officials want the county prison to accept bail money 24 hours a day to streamline paperwork and cut down on the number of times money changes hands.
