| Counties may consider jail partnership |

MIDLAND COUNTY, TX - Officials in both Midland County and Howard County have been considering the construction of additional jail space to cope with overcrowding at their respective facilities and according to two Midland County commissioners a joint effort is not out of the question. Precinct 4 Commissioner Randy Prude said he has not visited with any representatives from Howard County regarding a joint effort to build a new jail, but it is an idea he believes is worth exploring. Precinct 2 Commissioner Mike Bradford told the Reporter-Telegram it is "not outside the realm of consideration," but the communities would have to address several questions, such as who would operate the jail. "One of many options would be to consider something jointly," Prude said. "But I don't know about their timing. They may be in more of a hurry." In Howard County, the Commissioners' Court has already taken the first major step toward expanding its jail's capacity by approving a ballot initiative for the November general election proposing a roughly $10 million, 144-bed expansion.
