DERIDDER, LA - Beauregard Parish's jail has a cellblock locking system with locks that often fail to open, and parts for the aging system are difficult to find, according to officials with the Sheriff's Office. Jail officials discussed the problems with the Police Jury on Tuesday. "We would hate to have a situation where we had fire or smoke and someone gets locked in the jail," Chief Deputy Robert McCullough Jr. told the jury. "The situation is not getting better.
