| Insurer sued in standoff |

PHOENIX, AZ - The state is suing an insurance company to collect millions of dollars in expenses in dealing with the longest prison hostage standoff in U.S. history. Legal papers filed in Maricopa County Superior Court contend that the National Union Fire Insurance Co. of Pittsburgh has refused to honor the terms of a policy. The lawsuit asks a judge to declare that the actions of the company, a subsidiary of insurance giant AIG, are not only contrary to the policy but a violation of state law. The private lawyers hired by the state argue that the company misrepresented the terms of the policy. AIG spokesman Joe Norton said it is company policy not to comment on pending litigation.
