| Prison geared to help young offenders |

LAS VEGAS, NV - Inmates and prison officials agree. Things at the prison in Jean are different. Officials began moving male offenders under the age of 25 and women inmates to the prison last week. It's not just a lower level of security that separates the Southern Nevada Correctional Center from the state's eight other prisons. Officials with the Nevada Department of Corrections say they will provide the young inmates a wide selection of educational opportunities, drama classes and vocational training that will help them earn a living on the outside and hopefully keep them from breaking the law and returning to prison. "If you give inmates cultural and arts programs, it allows them to think outside their normal way," said Lenard Vare, the prison warden. Read more.
