KOUNTZE, TX - The Hardin County Jail expansion's architects will go back to the drawing board after the Commissioners Court voiced concerns Monday over the proposed construction's proximity to Texas 326. In order to ease jail overcrowding and in anticipation of a larger inmate population, Hardin County is discussing a jail addition to almost double the current 127-bed facility and provide room to expand to 400 beds. However, Adams and Fisher, a Weatherford architecture firm, presented a blueprint with an expansion that commissioners Ken Pelt and Bobby Franklin believed was too close to the highway right-of-way. Gary Adams, the architecture firm's planner and consultant, said the group would rethink its jail layout and present a new rendition at the court's October meeting. Read more.
