| Corrections starts ad blitz for officers |

JUNEAU, AK - The state Department of Corrections has launched an advertising blitz trying to fill vacant officer positions. There are about 60 openings for correctional officers at 12 institutions across the state. The state created 46 new positions this year to reduce overtime and fill new security posts at the Fairbanks Correctional Center. The department also has 21 probation officer positions open in field offices statewide. The state says many of these new positions result from new laws which strengthened the supervision of sex offenders. Read more.
