A former male officer at the Denver Women's Correctional Facility was sentenced Tuesday for sexually assaulting two inmates. Daniel Gallegos, 30, pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree assault and attempted sexual assault. He was given a two-year jail sentence with four years of probation on each charge, to be served consecutively. Gallegos will be required to take part in sex offender therapy and register as a sex offender as conditions of his probation. Chief Deputy District Attorney Tim Twining requested jail time as part of Gallegos' sentence at the hearing Tuesday. Denver District Court Judge Gloria Rivera granted Twining's request, adding that his jail term could include work release. Gallegos was arrested last March on suspicion of assaulting the two inmates. The Denver Women's Correctional Facility is a maximum security jail near the Denver County Jail. It houses 690 inmates. |
