| Union: vote against WA offer |

OLYMPIA, WA - The union that represents more than 5,000 of the state's prison workers is asking its members to reject Gov. Chris Gregoire's final offer on a two-year contract. The governor's offer to the Teamsters Local 117 matches the raises in other union contracts negotiated during the past month. "For our perspective, were concerned about our members, and our work is different," said Leonard Smith of Teamsters Local 117. "Go to the penitentiary and see how you like that work environment." Smith said the Teamsters will be uncharted territory if members vote down the contract, but a strike is unlikely. Read more.
