BOULDER, CO - Colorado is expected to begin sending several hundred state prison inmates to Oklahoma when prisons here fill to capacity late next month.

Although no contracts have been signed with a private prison operator in Oklahoma, between 200 and 300 Colorado inmates could be sent to a prison in Sayre, Okla., Department of Corrections officials said Monday.

The Sayre prison is operated by Corrections Corp. of America, which also operates four private prisons in Colorado.

"Basically we're out of beds by the end of October," said Colorado Department of Corrections spokesman Brent Parker. Read more.
