NEWARK, NJ - More than 100 corrections officers from across the state rallied outside the Hall of Records in Newark yesterday to protest working conditions at the Essex County Jail, where officers say they are understaffed, underequipped and in constant danger of attacks from violent inmates. Carrying signs accusing county officials of "appeasing criminals," the officers chanted "Take back the jail" as they marched in front of the county office building. Read more.
