Editorial - Attracting, Keeping Corrections Officers

WEST VIRGINA - It is an old, old story in West Virginia: Local and state governments have trouble attracting and keeping certain types of employees because they can make more money — sometimes much more — in other states. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done about that in most cases.

But when the situation affects employees in critical positions, such as police officers and corrections facility guards, something needs to be done about it. The issue of pay and benefits for State Police officers already has been addressed. Now, it's time to move on to corrections officers. Read more.
