| Sheriff hiring to staff new jail |

GREENFIELD, MA - With the construction of a new Franklin County jail on track for completion in December, Sheriff Frederick B. Macdonald is trying to find enough staff to run it. Operations at the current 118-year-old jail have required 64 correction officers. But to properly staff the new facilities and new programs, 100 officers will be needed, Macdonald said yesterday.
