| TN takes tips from NC immigration plan |

NASHVILLE, TN - Officials want Metro Nashville to be one of few local governments allowed to detain illegal immigrants, but the North Carolina city officials are looking to emulate has seen overcrowding of its jails. Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall has requested Nashville's permission to participate in a program offered by the federal Immigration Control and Enforcement agency. The program allows local sheriff's deputies to identify and detain illegal immigrants who are arrested for otherwise minor offenses. Hall hopes to model a Nashville program after one used in and around Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina. But authorities there say the jail is full because federal authorities can't take custody of inmates fast enough. Read more.
