ONSLOW COUNTY, NC - In about four years, a new five-story jail should be ready to house Onslow County's criminal element. During a special joint meeting Tuesday, Jacksonville City Council and Onslow County Board of Commissioners agreed that a new 500-bed jail in downtown Jacksonville was the best plan on the table and to move forward with it. “The cooperation that we saw between these two boards today is historic,” said Jacksonville Mayor Jan Slagle.
