ALAMOGORDO, NM - Alamogordo city commissioners unanimously approved a measure to send some long-term inmates to jail in Bailey County, Texas. The city has a contract with Otero County's jail, but discovered last year that it could save money by sending prisoners to Dickens County, Texas, said city Department of Public Safety Director Sam Trujillo. Otero County charges Alamogordo $70 per prisoner per day. The city contracted last year with Dickens County, a rural area about 60 miles east of Lubbock, to house long-term prisoners at $38 per prisoner per day. Read more.
