| Prison grants 500 Mexican GEDs |

MILAN, NM - Mexican inmates being held at the state prison here know that an American general equivalency diploma won't help them find a job in their home country once they're released. The Mexican government doesn't recognize the U.S. General Educational Development certificate, so the prison offers a program aimed at helping inmates earn their Mexican diplomas. More than 500 inmates, all foreign nationals, were honored at a graduation ceremony Wednesday. "It's a good chance to prove you are trying to make something good out of a bad mistake you make in life," said Francisco Sanz-Felix, who has been jailed at the prison for more than two years for what he calls a "terrible mistake."
