| Corrections suffers loss of personal info |

SPRINGFIELD, IL - More than a year after state agencies were caught throwing sensitive documents into the trash, two Illinois agencies admit they recently mishandled personal information about their employees. The Corrections Department said its information breach involved "virtually all" of its 13,500 employees but would provide no details. The Department of Transportation said its problem involved only about 40 workers and the documents never left the building. The Corrections Department's response to the security breach has angered the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The union wants Corrections to discuss when it learned of the problem, what has been done to fix it and whether the agency will take care of any credit problems related to identity theft. The union wrote a letter to the Corrections Department two weeks ago demanding information - especially whether the department had followed state law on what to do after mishandling sensitive documents.
