LEXINGTON, KY - A Fayette County jail employee who has asked for whistleblower protection said Monday he had been working with the FBI in its investigation of unnecessary force and civil rights violations against inmates at the facility. John Vest has worked at the jail since 2003 and is running for jailer in Jessamine County. He is still employed at the Fayette jail but has asked for administrative leave with pay, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported on its Web site Monday. The newspaper said Vest is requesting protection under the federal Whistleblower Protection Act, aimed at preventing workplace retribution. Read more.
