DES MOINES, IA - What to do about the state's crowded prisons has emerged as another key difference between Jim Nussle and Chet Culver, as those who watched their debate witnessed Monday night. Nussle criticized Culver during their event in Cedar Rapids for backing the construction of a new prison to replace the Iowa State Penitentiary at Fort Madison. Culver, Iowa's Democratic secretary of state, said he would support replacing the Fort Madison prison, a structure with buildings dating back more than 160 years.
